Hyspec starts operations in the DRC

In December 2012, Hyspec installed its first hydraulic hose workshop in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), at the Kibali Mine in the North East of the country (Province Orientale). The Kibali Mine is being developed by Randgold Resources and is owned by Randgold Resources (45%), AngloGold Ashanti (45%), and Sokino (10%).
The workshop, which is fully equipped with racks, shelves, work benches, hose making equipment and stock, has been implemented for Kibali Mining Services (KMS), one of the main Kibali Mine contractors. It is consigned to KMS, and will remain the property of Hyspec Mining Services during the entire contract duration. Hyspec also supplied a starting stock of hydraulic hoses, fittings and adaptors, which will be renewed as required. An experienced workshop supervisor has been provided to operate the workshop, train customer appointed technicians in hose making, and conduct daily inspections of the customer’s equipment in order to assist the mine in reducing downtime due to hydraulic hose failures.
“This is the fifth workshop installed and operated by Hyspec on a Randgold mine”, says Alan Wood, Hyspec Mining Services Managing Director. “We already operate three workshops in Mali, at Gounkoto, Loulo and Morilla, and one managed workshop at Tongon in Cote d’Ivoire. The Tongon and Kibali models differ from the Mali set ups, in the sense that in Cote d’Ivoire and in the DRC, the stock is not consigned to the mine, but bought upfront by the customer. However, all services provided are exactly the same as what we offer on each of the 50 workshops we operate across Africa (daily machine inspections and reports, daily stock control, production of monthly KPIs, stock re-supply), and follow the same objective : help the mine reduce operational costs, improve equipment availability and increase production!”
“Our group has been successfully partnering with Hyspec on mining projects in Africa for many years to its complete satisfaction”, adds Thierry Vaillant, Plant Manager for the Europe Fondation Mining Division, “it was therefore natural to associate them to this new project in the DRC.”
